Watching an official Grand Sumo tournament is an incredible experience—but why not go even closer?
By visiting a sumo stable and observing morning practice, you can witness the intensity of sumo from a much closer distance than during a tournament.

In recent years, however, there has been an increase in issues caused by visitors who are unfamiliar with proper etiquette during practice visits.

One of the main reasons is that even accompanying guides may not fully understand the unique rules and customs of sumo stables.
As a result, some stables have begun restricting or prohibiting practice visits to the general public.

At SumoExperience.com, we are warmly welcomed by members of the sumo community.
Our staff will accompany you during your visit, ensuring a safe, respectful, and enjoyable experience while helping you fully understand the proper rules and etiquette.

Not only will you feel the powerful clashes between wrestlers up close, but after practice, you will also have the opportunity to interact with them.

Important Guidelines for Practice Visits:

  • Sumo stables are not tourist facilities. Wrestlers are engaged in serious and rigorous training. Please observe with respect for the stable master and wrestlers.
  • Please remain quiet during practice and do not walk around inside the stable.
  • Please refrain from talking, as even quiet conversations may disturb training.
  • Do not step onto the dohyo (ring) or the sand area.
  • Please remove your shoes at the entrance and sit on the floor. Sitting cross-legged is recommended. Stretching your legs toward the dohyo is considered disrespectful.
  • Please remove hats and sunglasses.
  • Eating, drinking, and smoking are not allowed inside the stable.
  • Photography is allowed, but please take photos from your designated spot. Flash and loud shutter sounds are prohibited.
  • Once the practice visit has started, you may not leave until it ends.

Transportation to the stable and meals are not included.
Please follow your guide’s instructions. We are not responsible for any accidents caused by failure to follow instructions.

The meeting point and time will be provided one week in advance.
